There is no single price. The RYA does not set course fees, so each RYA training centre sets its own, and the theory and practical courses are priced separately.
Two courses, two prices
Day Skipper is split into a theory course and a practical course. Each is booked and paid for on its own.
What changes the theory price
- Format. The RYA lists classroom, online and distance learning.
- Length. The RYA sets a minimum of 40 hours plus exam time.
- The exam. If you want a commercial endorsement, the theory exam must be invigilated at an RYA training centre, which can add a fee.
What changes the practical price
- Length. The RYA lists 5 days, 3 weekends, or 3 days plus 2 days.
- Living aboard. You live on board the yacht with the crew and instructor.
- Sail or motor. The course runs on either, and the certificate is endorsed to match.
